The first quarter of my software startup business

So here I am, writing again at my blog after nearly two and half months. So you can imagine the kind of hectic time that I have been going through. This is the very essence of the path of Entrepreneurship – Be prepared to give up even those things, which you like to do the most. I love writing, but because of lack of time I have hardly been able to get time to write on my blog. But the very purpose of this blog was to provide a clear path to all those who are looking for directions, and I would fail in my duties, if I fail to do so. Hence, every now and then I try to squeeze out time to write on my blog.

So, the first quarter of my software startup business is over, and when I look back, it has been really an overwhelming experience. There has been so many learning in the past 3 months, which I have not learnt in my entire career. The key is you need to train your mind to remain flexible at all point of time. The moment you stop being flexible, then you should expect problems knocking at your doors. Entrepreneur’s life is not a simple game, that’s why it is called as the most risky and yet the most rewarding career option. An entrepreneur needs to remain active at all the time, and he/ she should be a moving dictionary for his/her company. The mind needs to keep thinking all the time about everything – believe me, its tough. One thing an Entrepreneur needs to accept is that there is a limitation to one’s thinking prowess, and hence should not be disheartened by the lack of agility on few fronts. The only solution is to remain organized and put some process in place, so that at least certain important areas can work on seamlessly.

Coming to the business part of my company in the first quarter - Well, now I know for sure, that there will be never by any moment in this company, when we will have no work in hand – we have mastered the art of getting projects. Now the real effort is to tap on to the projects which can give Excellent Return on Investments.

Here is a fact sheet on our client procurement in the first quarter:

No. of software clients acquired: 29
No. of recruitment clients acquired: 18

So in total, we have more than 40 clients in our first quarter. This looks like a huge number, but lets not get misguided by the numbers. Most of the projects have been on a lower scale, hence the returns have been decent, not overtly profitable. But this was my plan since beginning, to build a customer base of at least 100 customers, before we embark on the big clients. So you can say that we have worked very sincerely, to put every penny in our company’s bank account. The good part about the first quarter is that we have recovered nearly 75% of the investment amount, which is really credible.

Following is the list of some of our software clients: Tata Communications, Aditya Birla Group – Madura Garments, Visions Interactive Systems, Quick Turn Consultancy Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Elogic Technologies, Aquarian Management Group, Indus Experience, Pragati Metal Arts, Prakash Home Movers Pvt. Ltd. Artistic Yoga Pvt. Ltd., Linkpetals, Mockexamsonline, Vidyacentral, Nirmaan, MoviewsAtoZ, Denobili School, Din Kamal Tech Solutions, Jais Research and Development Pvt. Ltd., Jobspan, Customer Focus Services, and some celebrity clients like Bhumika Chawla, Shahnawaz Hussain, Bharat Thakur, Vinil.
Following is the list of some of our recruitment clients: Arctern, New Wave Technologies, Max New York Life Insurance, Net Magic Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Zolipe Solutions Pvtl. Ltd., Arowana Consulting, Quick Turn Consultancy Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Janalakshmi Financial Services, Virtual Realty Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Dazzled Designer Tiles, Meha World, Damro India, First Source, Jobspan, Citadel Wealth Advisory Services, Nirmaan, Franklin Covey.

Our major customer acquisitions has been Aditya Birla Group and Tata Communications. We have already delivered the first phase for Aditya Birla Group, and we are talking in terms of doing the second phase for them. Tata Communications is a mid sized project, which we have recently started. There are multiple phases in the project, and the project is expected to go on for long time.

    Hi Sharat,
That is a pretty impressive number for the first ever quarter :-) Congratulations. As you said, the first deal size doesn’t matter, what should is the ability to continue the relationship for more fruitful association in future.

    Regards,
    Bigyan
